Dunkleosteus was an armored fish of eight to ten meters in length, which was unusually large for the period in which it lived. It was one of the first large fish of the underwater world, along with Titanichthys. Dunkleosteus lived 130-150 million years before the first dinosaurs. He was a fearless hunter who was incredibly quick to snap up his prey and eat large sharks, and even his own kind. Fossils of fish that were only half-digestible were often discovered along its skeleton. It was named after the paleontologist David Dunkle. The word "osteos" is Greek for "bone".
