Bromelain provides natural plant digestive enzymes derived from pineapple. These enzymes are resistant to acidic conditions in the stomach and therefore remain active in the intestine. These are protease enzymes that break down proteins into amino acids, which can be easily digested and absorbed by the body. The enzymes in bromelain work effectively at many different pH levels, which means they survive in the acidic environment of the stomach.

The enzymes are extracted by aqueous extraction from pineapple stems. Their properties are related to protein metabolism, collagen hydrolysis, oxidative stress and many other areas. 1 capsule contains 500 mg of bromelain with a potency of 2000 GDU/gram. (GDUs are units measuring the strength of enzymes, specifically the ability to digest gelatin - Gelatin Digesting Units). Bromelain was discovered as an active natural substance in 1957, when it was found in high concentrations in the stems of the pineapple (Ananas comusus). It is a plant cysteine protease. Pineapples originate from South America, specifically from the region of Brazil and Paraguay, and are even a valued part of folk medicine in Hawaii.
