Zovirax Duo is a medicated cream for the topical treatment of cold sores on and around the lips. It contains two active ingredients - acyclovir, which is an antiviral that works against the herpes simplex virus that causes cold sores, and hydrocortisone, which is a weak corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory effects. This combination helps relieve the first symptoms of cold sores (e.g. itching, tingling, redness) and reduces the likelihood of the cold sore developing into a blister. If a blister has already formed, the cream shortens the healing time. Zovirax Duo is for adults and adolescents 12 years of age and older and is used five times a day for up to 5 days. It is intended for external use only.
Dosage
Zovirax Duo cream is used for external use only. For adults and children over 12 years of age, it is recommended to apply the cream 5 times a day (approximately every 3-4 hours during the day). Treatment should be started as soon as possible after the first signs of a cold sore, such as tingling, itching or redness. The cream should be applied to the affected area and its surroundings (approximately a half-centimetre border of healthy skin). The application should be carried out for 5 days. After 5 days, if the condition does not improve or worsens, it is necessary to consult a doctor. Do not use the product for more than 5 days. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after application to avoid spreading infection.
Contraindications
Zovirax Duo should not be used if you are allergic to acyclovir, valacyclovir, hydrocortisone, or any other ingredient in this product. The product is not indicated for the treatment of skin infections other than cold sores. It should only be used on cold sores on and around the lips and never on the eyes, mouth, nose or genitals. Also, do not use it if you have a weakened immune system (for example, after a bone marrow transplant or if you have HIV/AIDS), or if you have recurrent severe cold sores that could indicate another underlying condition. Zovirax Duo should not be applied under covering materials such as plasters. Consult your physician before using this product if you have any doubts about its suitability for your treatment.
Notice
Before using Zovirax Duo, make sure you only apply the product to cold sores on and around the lips. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, nose or genitals, even during application, to avoid irritation of these areas. Always wash your hands thoroughly after use to avoid spreading infection or transmission to others. If you suffer from recurrent cold sores, consult a doctor to rule out other underlying diseases. Do not use the product for more than 5 days. If you do not notice any improvement after this time, or if your condition worsens, see a doctor. If you experience visual disturbances or blurred vision, contact your doctor immediately. The product is not intended for children under 12 years of age.
Read the package leaflet carefully before taking the medicine. Do not exceed the recommended dosage. Keep out of reach of children. In case of side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Storage
Keep Zovirax Duo out of the sight and reach of children. Store at temperatures up to 25 °C and protect from cold and frost. Do not leave the product in a place exposed to direct sunlight. Do not use this product after the expiry date stated on the packaging (EXP). After the first opening of the tube, the shelf life is 3 months. If you notice a change in the consistency or appearance of the cream, do not use it. Do not use this product if it no longer performs its original function. Do not damage the product or dispose of it in wastewater or household waste; Ask your pharmacist how to properly dispose of unused medicine.
