Grass trimmers are used mainly to trim grass in places that can’t be mowed with a normal lawnmower (typically around sidewalks, trees, and shrubs). They complement the spindle lawnmowers, since they both operate on the same principle and cut the grass instead of mowing it. Cutting the grass doesn’t damage the lawn and prevents stalks from fraying and developing yellowing tips. Lawns maintained with a spindle lawnmower and shears tend to be thicker and look healthier overalll.
