Grass Trimmers

Grass trimmers are used mainly to trim grass in places that can’t be mowed with a normal lawnmower (typically around sidewalks, trees, and shrubs). They complement the spindle lawnmowers, since they both operate on the same principle and cut the grass instead of mowing it. Cutting the grass doesn’t damage the lawn and prevents stalks from fraying and developing yellowing tips. Lawns maintained with a spindle lawnmower and shears tend to be thicker and look healthier overalll.

Basic types of grass trimmers

Manual - simple and cheap. They are suitable for trimming small areas.
Cordless - are powered by an electric motor and have a built-in battery. Compared to manual models, work with them is faster and more convenient. They are suitable for trimming larger lawns.

What to focus on when buying a cordless grass trimmer

Operating time and charging

The operating time of cordless grass trimmers (how long can they cut before discharging) generally ranges from 30 to 100 minutes. Their charging time (from 0 to 100%), is usually between 2-5 hours. As a rule of thumb, the longer the operating time, the longer the subsequent charging.

Blade width and handle

Blade width (8-12 cm) - the wider the blade, the wider the reach of the trimmers. Grass trimmers with a wider blade make your work faster.
Some models come with a handle and wheels (sometimes can be purchased separately). This allows you to work while standing, which is easier on your back and knees.

What to look for when choosing a manual grass trimmer

360-degree rotatable handle – allows you trim in corners.
A lock mechanism locks the trimmer when it’s not in use and prevents accidental injuries.
Soft grip provides better grip and reduces the amount of force you have to apply.
