Prodipe AL21

Prodipe AL21
The Prodipe AL21 lavalier microphone is a specialised set of three condenser electret pickups. This analogue device features a directional cardioid characteristic, capturing sound from a specific direction and suppressing unwanted ambient noise. It connects to other equipment via mini XLR and XLR connectors using phantom power. This set was developed in France in collaboration with musician Roland Romanelli and sound engineer Ludovic Lanen. The set of three microphones captures all the dynamics and subtle nuances of accordion and bandoneon playing. The included Velcro clamps make it easy to attach to the instrument.
Key features of the Prodipe AL21 microphone
- Attachment via Velcro clamps for easy installation and removal
- Three separate clamps for optimal placement on the right and left hand
- High linearity of the electret cell respects the natural colour and sonority of the instrument
- Directional cardioid pickup suppresses unwanted crosstalk from the surrounding environment
- Connection via a 1500mm cable
- Mini XLR to XLR reducers and adaptors expand connectivity options
- Phantom power for the condenser pickups
Suitable for stage, lectures, studio use and musical instruments
Sound pickup and directional characteristic
This set of three microphones uses sensitive electret condenser cells developed in France. These cells operate in the 50 to 20000Hz frequency range. The directional cardioid characteristic captures sound directly from the instrument and limits ambient interference. The development involved musician Roland Romanelli and sound engineer Ludovic Lanen. The pickups respect the natural colour and sonority of the accordion and bandoneon.
Ambient noise suppression and wind protection
The design of the microphones focuses on isolating the sound of the instrument itself, both on stage and in the recording studio. The cardioid directivity suppresses unwanted ambient crosstalk and prevents feedback. The included windshield helps to dampen air blasts during performance. The pickups transmit a pure tone without interference from the surrounding environment. This makes the sound engineer's job easier during live performances.
Prodipe AL21 microphone connection and outputs
The set's components are connected using analogue signal transmission technology with an impedance of 2200 Ohm. Each of the three microphones uses a 1500mm cable. The supplied adaptors convert mini XLR connectors to standard XLR outputs. The set includes a Y-adaptor to combine two signals into a single input. This simplifies connection to a mixing desk or sound card.
Power, battery and charging
This condenser system requires a stable power supply to operate. It is powered externally via the connected XLR cable from the mixing desk. Phantom power provides the necessary voltage for the electret capsules to function correctly. The microphones do not contain an integrated battery, which reduces their overall weight. Operation is therefore not limited by battery capacity.
Prodipe AL21 microphone mounting and design
The set includes specially designed mounts for stable placement on an accordion or bandoneon. Two clamps are intended for the right hand and one for the left hand. The Velcro clamps facilitate quick assembly and disassembly without damaging the instrument's finish.

Microphone principle
A dynamic microphone is suitable for open-air performances, live broadcasts, music production, etc. It uses a magnet and a moving coil to capture sound.
A condenser microphone is mainly used for studio purposes. It has higher sensitivity and lower noise. It requires a separate power supply.
Frequency range
The frequency range indicates the range of frequency values that the microphone records. The wider the range, the more sounds it can capture.
Low frequencies (e.g. 20–200Hz): Bass, the deepest notes of instruments (double bass, kick drum) and male voices.
Mid-range frequencies (e.g. 200–3000Hz): The body of instruments, the foundation of the voice where the ear is most sensitive, important for speech intelligibility.
High frequencies (e.g. 3000–14000Hz): Treble, details, sibilance and the "shine" of the sound.
Air band (above 14000Hz): Gives recordings a sense of expensive, super-high-quality sound and space.
Sensitivity
Microphone sensitivity is the ratio of output voltage to acoustic pressure. It expresses how loud a signal the microphone produces at a given acoustic pressure; higher sensitivity means a stronger voltage and is suitable for quiet studios, while lower sensitivity is better for noisy environments as it doesn't unnecessarily amplify ambient noise.
