AXAGON PCEM2-S

AXAGON PCEM2-S
The AXAGON PCEM2-S controller serves as an internal adapter for connecting an NVMe M.2 SSD to a desktop computer that lacks a dedicated M.2 slot. It plugs directly into the PCI-Express bus and supports a wide range of versions, from 4.0 to older 1.0a. Since it acts as a direct link without any restricting chips, the drive's transfer speeds are not limited in any way and correspond to the full potential of the installed SSD. An integrated LED indicates the operational status and data transfer. Installation is Plug and Play, with no need to install drivers.
Key features of the AXAGON PCEM2-S controller
- Aluminium cover acts as a passive heatsink for the M.2 drive
- Included pads dissipate heat from both sides of the SSD
- The system supports booting from the installed SSD
- Adapter and drive are powered by the PCI-Express bus
- Supports installation of single-sided and double-sided M.2 drives
- No capacity limit for the M.2 SSD used
Compatibility
The adapter includes an NGFF 75-pin M-key slot for installing an NVMe M.2 SSD. It supports all common drive sizes, specifically 2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280. The design allows for the mounting of both single-sided and double-sided M.2 cards, and the card does not limit the capacity of the installed SSD. Both M-key and B+M-key drives can be used. Furthermore, the system fully supports booting from a drive connected via this controller.
Heat dissipation
To maintain stable M.2 SSD performance, the adapter uses an aluminium cover that functions as a passive heatsink. The package includes thermally conductive pads that efficiently transfer heat from the drive's components directly to the aluminium body. This combination reduces the drive's operating temperature, preventing overheating and the subsequent drop in performance during intensive use. The metallised holes in the PCB also contribute to better heat dissipation.
PCI-Express connection and power
The adapter uses a four-lane PCI-Express interface and is installed in an x16 slot on the computer's motherboard. Power is supplied entirely by the bus, so there is no need to connect any external power cables. The card is backward compatible with older versions of the bus, including PCIe 3.0, 2.0 or 1.0a. In such cases, the transfer speed automatically adjusts to the limits of the slot being used.
