Why should you use a softbox?

Flash photography creates harsh shadows and poor settings can overexpose objects and cause blinding glares. A softbox can mitigate the issue, as it works by softening and diffusing light by spreading the initial beam to create a larger light source. This lights up the area more evenly and softens shadows.

There are several types and sizes of softboxes. Some are designed to be used with studio lights, external flashes, and strobe lights. They have broad application in the field of portraiture and product and studio photography.

When choosing a softbox, consider what shape would bring you the best results

• Rectangular - A classically shaped softbox with universal application. It is suitable for both portrait and product photography.
• Square - Suitable for product photography and smaller spaces.
• Stripbox - A narrow rectangular softbox designed to illuminate the whole body or tall objects.
• Octabox - A rounded softbox for portrait and product photography. It creates a circular reflection in the eyes and smooths lighting around rounded edges.
