Linden

The heart lime (Tilia cordata), also known professionally as the small-leaved lime, is not just a plant species in our environment, but a silent witness to history and a bearer of deep symbolism. As the Czech national tree, it has embodied the noble ideals of freedom and love for centuries. This mighty giant, which is an inherent dominant feature of the temperate landscape, was held in high esteem by our ancestors. Traditionally, it was planted near human dwellings, where it performed not only an aesthetic function thanks to its captivating scent, but above all a protective function. The utility value of this tree has accompanied mankind since time immemorial. Its wood is still a highly valued raw material in artistic carving due to its softness, while linden bark was widely used in the past in basketry or in the production of shoes and ropes. However, its flowers and their potential have always been taken just as seriously.
