Japan Bancha is one of the very popular green tea varieties. This is a classic Japanese green tea with large flat leaves. The yellow-green infusion hides a full-bodied fresh taste and pleasant grassy aroma. And because it doesn't contain large amounts of caffeine (tein), you can enjoy the tea in the afternoon. Japan Bancha is a green tea that is very popular in Japan. It is slightly lower in quality and, by law, cheaper than the much-loved Sencha and is therefore used for everyday drinking. However, we cannot say that it lacks in taste compared to the Sencha. Japan Bancha definitely has a lot to offer, which is why everyone should try the slightly grassy, only very slightly bitter, yet beautifully sweet taste.

Where is Japan Bancha grown?
Japan Bancha is mainly grown in the southern coastal region of Japan, and is usually a second crop. The oceanic climate with occasional monsoons and higher humidity really benefits the tea. In cultivation, great emphasis is placed on the hand-picking and processing of the tea leaves, which are collected by women and girls in large bags. The leaves are then left to wilt in the sun before being processed further.
What kind of taste should I expect from Japan Bancho?
Even though Japan Bancha is one of the cheaper teas that we would find in every Japanese household, we certainly can't talk about any inferiority in terms of taste. On the contrary. Thanks to its slightly grassy aroma and decently astringent sweet taste it can please even the most demanding connoisseurs and lovers of loose teas. You can also try the iced alternative, which is great for diversifying your drinking regime during summer days. Just add a couple of ice cubes and a slice of lemon to the freshly prepared brine.

Preparation
Two factors are crucial for the preparation of teas - the correct temperature of the water and also the appropriate steeping time. To make 250 ml of infusion, use about 2-3 teaspoons of quality Japan Bancha loose tea, pour water at a temperature between 75 and 85 °C and leave to infuse for 1-3 minutes. If you are more comfortable making the infusion in a larger pot, use two to three teaspoons more leaves.
