Without Return: book one

In the terrifying darkness of deep space, there is nothing but pain, blood and death.

Year 2320. From the ashes of a burnt Earth, the United Solar Federation was born, thanks to an immortal leader nicknamed Scarecrow. The only place it could expand was into the infinite cosmos. But no one knew what horrors lay hidden in its depths.
When a base on the edge of colonised space goes silent, a unit of combat clones—including the newly promoted Corporal Jan Jansen—is dispatched to investigate. They have the weapons, the training and the experience. There’s nothing they can't handle. Well, almost nothing.
After an uncomfortably close encounter of the third kind, Jansen is left alone and without hope of rescue aboard the cruiser LSSF Deimos. The radio is silent, the air is filling with poisonous fumes, and acid is burning through the decks. Not to mention that the ship is trapped in the gravitational field of a black hole.
Could things get any worse? Corporal Jansen will soon find out that they can. Perhaps the black hole isn't what it seems to be at all, and that a threat unlike any humanity has ever faced lurks in its darkness…

Jakub Hoza

Born in 1978 in Benešov. Although he long thought a hat and whip would suit him, he eventually graduated in “Electronic Computer Systems” and now works in the IT department of an unnamed health insurance company. He primarily writes “deviant” dark fantasy and “splatterpunk” action sci-fi. To date, he has published eight books (Theatre Macabre, Chains of Fate, Walk Through Fire, To Hell and Back, Like Death Itself, Burnt Land, Sculptors of Flesh, and No Return) and occasionally contributes short stories to Pevnost magazine. For over thirty years, Hoza has been engaged in the theoretical and practical study of close combat, particularly with bladed weapons. Some of the walls of his Prague flat are so hung with steel that they look like a castle armoury. Besides this, he dedicates his time mainly to his family and writing. He occasionally enjoys re-reading something by his favourite authors: Sapkowski, Kulhánek, and Pratchett.
