Essential nutrients for healthy eyes

Lutein and zeaxanthin - Lutein and zeaxanthin are macular pigments found in the center of the retina in a place known as the macula, responsible for sharp vision. Blue light is part of the visible spectrum. It penetrates deep into the eye where it can destroy the photoreceptors in our retina, which explains the deterioration of vision with age. High-intensity blue light has a negative effect on us not only in the evening, but also during the day if you work like most people in front of screens or under LED lighting. The macular pigment made up of lutein and zeaxanthin is placed in front of the photoreceptors as protective "inner sunglasses". Its content decreases with increasing age and needs to be replenished.
Antioxidants - Vitamin E, zinc and copper have an antioxidant effect. This means that they bind substances called free radicals, which are produced in the body in the course of living, breathing, eating and exertion. If these substances are not controlled, they can significantly damage the body, including the eyes, and accelerate aging. The formation of free radicals increases with age and also, e.g. smoking.
Omega-3 fatty acids - Omega-3 fatty acids, especially DHA, are a vital component of the retina and are necessary for maintaining normal vision.
