NIKKA From The Barrel 500ml 51.4% + 2x Glass + Jigger GB
Nikka From the Barrel is a blend with an alcohol content of 51.4%, it is made from grain and malt from the Miyagikyo distillery and from malt from the Yoichi distillery. Nikka From the Barrel matures in bourbon barrels once used and is characterized by a perfect balance of Japanese whiskey style. The visionary Masataka Taketsuru, whose ancestors had been producing sake since 1733, was born in 1894. In 1919, he was sent to Scotland by Settsu Shuzo to gain experience and technical knowledge in whiskey production. While studying at the University of Glasgow, he learned blending and distillation and used his experience in making Japanese whiskey for Settsu Shuzo.
When he returned to Japan in 1920, he found that the intended project would probably never materialize. Two years later, he lost his job, and in 1923 he joined the Kotobukiya group, for which he built a distillery near the city of Kyoto, and in 1924 he became the father of the first Japanese whiskey.
In 1934, Masataka Taketsuru decided to become independent, founded Nippo Kaju, had the Yoichi distillery built on the island of Hokkaido, and in the same year began producing the first blends. In 1952, Nippo Kaju definitively adopted the name Nikka Whiskey. In 1969, he built another distillery on the island of Honshu near the city of Sendai. Ten years later, Masataka Taketsuru died at the age of 85.
His muse during his lifetime was Jessie Roberta Cowan, whom he met during his studies and whom he married in Glasgow in 1920. Together they moved to Japan, where Jessie Roberta changed her name to Rita, learned Japanese and never to Scotland again. did not return.
