Modern wired keyboards use a standard USB port for their PC connection. Their features are almost the same as in wireless keyboards, but they come with a considerably lower price tag. You also don’t have to worry about recharging or replacing the batteries. Wired keyboards are powered directly from the device via a cable. The downside is their limited mobility.

Wired Keyboards Types

Classic keyboards are suitable for normal office or home use.
Gaming keyboards are notable for the colourful and controllable backlight, macro button programming, quick response times thanks to high-end switches, and excellent ergonomics.
Compact keyboards are simple rectangular keyboards with a clean design and small dimensions; some models lack the numeric keypad and multimedia buttons.

Important Parameters of Wired Keyboards

Layout

Keyboard localisation determines what language-specific symbols you get. Keyboards with Czech localisation will therefore have keys labelled ř, č, á, ř, etc.

Key Types

Mechanical - pretty much the classic keyboard; high durability and good response.
Low profile - quiet, similar to laptop keys.
Chiclet - rectangular in shape with rounded edges, more space between the keys.

Keyboards with mechanical switches have a significantly longer lifespan than conventional keyboards. It’s a unique computer hardware component that virtually doesn’t age. Aside from gamers, this type of keyboard is also suitable for users who often type long text documents.

Function Keys

Programmable keys - allow you to assign a variety of functions to individual keys to streamline controls and simplify your work.
Macro keys - a single button press executes a whole set of commands. They are used to facilitate repetitive tasks.
Multimedia keys - are popular because of their variety of multimedia features. They can be used to easily control your PC and other external devices.

Useful Wired Keyboard Features

Numeric keypad - contains a block of numeric keys. Perfect for frequent work with numbers.
Backlit keys - ideal for those who often work in the dark.
Display keyboards - are keyboards with a built-in display that shows parameters such as the battery status or time, depending on the settings.
USB Hub - is a device that allows you to connect multiple USB devices to one PC USB port.
