Sony C-100 Studio Microphone with Hi-Res Audio Support

The Sony C-100 studio microphone is a two-way condenser microphone compatible with the Hi-Res Audio standard for studio-quality recording of vocals and musical instruments. The C-100 has inherited its dual-capsule design and noise suppression system from the legendary C-800G model. The result is a wide frequency range of 20 to 50,000Hz with faithful reproduction of voice and subtle musical details.

Switchable Polar Patterns for Different Recording Types

Thanks to its condenser capsule, the professional Sony C-100 microphone allows switching between omnidirectional, unidirectional and figure-of-eight polar patterns. It is therefore suitable for various sound recording methods. The built-in low-cut filter helps to reduce low-frequency noise and contributes to a clean and natural recording.

XLR Microphone with PAD Switch for Loud Sound Sources

It also includes a -10dB PAD switch, which helps prevent clipping, distortion and preamplifier overload when recording loud sound peaks. The Sony C-100 microphone is equipped with a professional XLR-3 connector for easy connection to studio equipment.

Microphone principle

A dynamic microphone is suitable for open performances, live broadcasts, music production, etc. It uses a magnet and a moving coil to capture sound.
A condenser microphone is mainly used for studio purposes. It has higher sensitivity and lower noise. It needs to be powered separately.

Frequency range

The frequency range indicates the range of frequency values that the microphone records. The wider the range, the more sounds it can record.
Low frequencies (e.g., 20–200Hz): Bass, the deepest tones of instruments (double bass, kick drum) and male voices.
Mid frequencies (e.g., 200–3,000Hz): The body of instruments, the foundation of the voice where the ear is most sensitive, important for speech intelligibility.
High frequencies (e.g., 3,000–14,000Hz): Treble, details, sibilance and the "shine" of the sound.
Airy band (above 14,000Hz): Gives recordings the feel of expensive, super high-quality sound and space.

Sensitivity

Microphone sensitivity is the ratio of output voltage to acoustic pressure. It expresses how loud a signal the microphone produces at a given acoustic pressure; higher sensitivity means a stronger voltage and is suitable for quiet studios, while lower sensitivity is better for noisy environments because it amplifies less ambient noise unnecessarily.

Manufacturer information

Sony Corporation is a Japanese company founded in 1946. Its headquarters is located in Tokyo. Its beginnings were humble. The first product sold under the Sony brand was a transistor radio. It was those radios that played a pivotal role in the company's expansion in the 1960s and the world quickly began to associate Sony products with a reliably stellar price-performance ratio.

In the 1970s, Sony was severely affected by the global economic crisis. Many analysts considered the company effectively defunct and could see no future for it. However, they underestimated the famous Japanese perseverance and courage. The crisis was not a disaster for Sony; on the contrary, it served as a launching pad to even greater heights. The company recovered and soon changed the media landscape with the development of the CD and later the DVD. In the early 1990s, Sony achieved another major success with the introduction of the PlayStation gaming console. It is the gaming consoles that best represent the intersection of the three key areas in which the company operates today – electronics, video games, and the entertainment industry.
