Sony C-80 studio microphone for vocals and musical instruments
The Sony C-80 studio microphone delivers high-quality sound with rich mids and pronounced low frequencies. A characteristic boost around 13kHz ensures great vocal clarity and faithfully captures the fullness of acoustic instruments. This makes it a versatile choice for recording vocals, music production and podcasts.

Dual-diaphragm construction for stable and natural sound
The dual-diaphragm capsule construction ensures a clean and balanced sound. The rear diaphragm helps to reduce excessive low frequencies when close-miking, so the resulting recording remains consistent even when the performer moves slightly in front of the microphone.

Sony C-80 – A design inspired by the Sony C-800G and C-100
The C-80 builds on the legendary C-800G and C-100 microphones, using a design engineered for effective noise suppression. The two-part metal body reduces acoustic vibrations, which contributes to a clean recording with minimal unwanted noise.

Low-cut filter and -10dB PAD for demanding unidirectional microphone recording
The Sony C-80 has a built-in low-cut filter that helps eliminate low-frequency noise, for example from air conditioning, traffic or microphone handling. The -10dB PAD switch helps prevent clipping, distortion and preamp overload when recording loud sound sources, such as drums or dynamic vocal passages.

Microphone principle
A dynamic microphone is suitable for outdoor performances, live broadcasts, music production, etc. It uses a magnet and a moving coil to capture sound.
A condenser microphone is mainly used for studio purposes. It has higher sensitivity and lower noise. It needs to be powered separately.
Frequency range
The frequency range indicates the range of frequency values that the microphone records. The wider the range, the more sounds it can record.
Low frequencies (e.g. 20–200Hz): Bass, the lowest notes of instruments (double bass, kick drum) and male voices.
Mid frequencies (e.g. 200–3,000Hz): The body of instruments, the foundation of the voice, where the ear is most sensitive, important for speech intelligibility.
High frequencies (e.g. 3,000–14,000Hz): Treble, details, sibilance and the "shine" of the sound.
Air band (above 14,000Hz): Gives recordings the feel of expensive, super-quality sound and space.
Sensitivity
A microphone's sensitivity is the ratio of output voltage to sound pressure. It expresses how loud a signal the microphone produces at a given sound pressure; higher sensitivity means a stronger voltage and is suitable for quiet studios, while lower sensitivity is better for noisy environments because it amplifies less ambient noise.

Sony Corporation is a Japanese company founded in 1946. Its headquarters is located in Tokyo. Its beginnings were humble. The first product sold under the Sony brand was a transistor radio. It was those radios that played a pivotal role in the company's expansion in the 1960s and the world quickly began to associate Sony products with a reliably stellar price-performance ratio. In the 1970s, Sony was severely affected by the global economic crisis. Many analysts considered the company effectively defunct and could see no future for it. However, they underestimated the famous Japanese perseverance and courage. The crisis was not a disaster for Sony; on the contrary, it served as a launching pad to even greater heights. The company recovered and soon changed the media landscape with the development of the CD and later the DVD. In the early 1990s, Sony achieved another major success with the introduction of the PlayStation gaming console. It is the gaming consoles that best represent the intersection of the three key areas in which the company operates today – electronics, video games, and the entertainment industry.
