A herbal medicine intended for the short-term treatment of functional constipation.
Dosage
The maximum daily dose is 30 mg of hydroxyanthracene glycosides. This corresponds to 1 g of the preparation. The dose should be adjusted individually to produce the expected effect, but at the same time be as low as possible. Adolescents over 12 years old, adults, elderly patientsdaily dose is 1 g of the herbal drug (1 teaspoon), equivalent to 25 - 30 mg of hydroxyanthracene glycosides, calculated asosennoside B. The warm infusion is drunk once a day, preferably at night.
1 teaspoon is poured over 0.25 l of boiling water, left to infuse for 15 minutes and then strained. The infusion is always prepared fresh, immediately before use. Usually, it is sufficient to take tea two to three times a week. The product is intended for short-term use only, for a maximum of one to two weeks. In the event that the state of health does not improve during the course of administration of the preparation, it is necessary to consult a doctor.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the medicinal substance of this product. Laxative, i.e. and Sennae folium, must not be administered in case of intestinal obstruction and atony, stenoses, diarrhoeal diseases, sudden abdominal episodes, inflammatory bowel diseases (e.g. Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, appendicitis), abdominal pain of unknown origin, dehydration and electrolyte depletion. Medicinal tea is not intended for administration to children under 12 years of age.
Notice
Increased caution should be exercised when administering cardiac glycosides, antiarrhythmics, OT-interval prolonging drugs, diuretics, adrenocorticoids and the herbal drug Liguiritiae radix. The simultaneous administration of Sennae folium with these preparations should be consulted with a physician in advance. Causes of chronic constipation or undiagnosed acute or persistent abdominal discomfort (abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting) must always be investigated by a doctor as they may be a sign of serious health problems (intestinal obstruction). The product is intended for short-term use only, for a maximum of one to two weeks. If a laxative is required to be taken every day, the cause of the constipation should be investigated. Prolonged use oflaxatives should be avoided. Taking the product for longer than recommended can lead to impaired bowel function and dependence on laxatives.
It is advisable to use a herbal drug only when it is not possible to achieve a therapeutic effect by changing lifestyle (change of eating habits, increase of physical exercise) or by administering bulk laxatives. If the drug is administered to patients suffering from incontinence, sanitary napkins should be changed more frequently to avoid excessive skin contact with stool. In patients with kidney disease, administration of the product may cause an imbalance in electrolyte levels.
