Preparation
Preparing matcha tea is not time-consuming and does not require any special skills. It is a fine powder that is mixed with water. For this purpose, you can use a traditional bamboo whisk (chasen), as well as a classic whisk or an electric milk frother. The traditional way of preparing matcha tea comes from the Japanese tea ceremony (chanoyu). To prepare the drink, you will need a bowl (chawan), a bamboo whisk (chasen) and a bamboo scoop (chashaku). Place a spoonful of traditional matcha (1.5g) into the bowl using the bamboo scoop (chashaku), pour over 100ml of hot water (80°C) and mix with the bamboo whisk (chasen) until a thick green foam is formed. Top up the drink with water to 200–250ml. As with coffee, some people like to drink a strong matcha espresso, while others prefer to add more water to dilute it. You can also mix matcha with juice or milk. Enjoy. The drink can also be prepared and consumed cold for a very refreshing experience. Empty a 1.5g sachet of matcha into a bottle of cold water and mix. Enjoy.
